Error 1418 While Syncing iPod to iTunes

Alexandria Torres

The iTunes application has been designed by Apple to act as an interface between the iPod and the computer. It is through this application that the user can organize data on the latter. iTunes also enables users to play music, videos etc using the application. The iPod, is one of the best known portable media players. Although the two are supposed to work hand-in-hand, they sometimes fail to do so. This gives rise to data loss. If one has a back-up of the data thereon, it’s fine no matter what goes wrong. The data can easily be reclaimed. When there isn’t a back-up available, you can use an Recovery Software to salvage music and other iPod data.

Many people come across the iPod error 1418. The message reads:

“Customer’s iPod” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)”

This problem occurs when you are syncing the iPod to the computer.

Cause:

The prime reason behind this is that there is some error in the DLL files in iTunes. This can sometimes occur due to some malware present on the system.

Solution:

Ensure that you have an updated anti-virus. You can re-register these files to try and resolve the issue:

Open the Notepad in Windows, type the following onto the empty text window:

regsvr32 /s:

softpub.dll

wintrust.dll

dssenh.dll

rsaenh.dll

gpkcsp.dll

sccbase.dll

slbcsp.dll

mssip32.dll

cryptdlg.dll

initpki.dll

Save the file as ‘appleipod.bat’. Save it on the Desktop. Close the Notepad.

Find the appleipod.bat file. Open it. A black window will open. This will disappear on it’s own.

Connect after opening iTunes.

Once the iPod shows in iTunes, restore and resync it.

Apple advices users to restore their iPod before trying to re-register the DLL files. During the process of restoring the iPod (before or after re-registering the DLL files), data gets deleted. You can Recover your data by using an iPod Recovery Software. These are specifically designed to retrieve data deleted.

Stellar Pheonix iPod Recovery is a Recovery tool which has a simple GUI. You need not be an expert in data recovery to use this application. It supports MIDI, WAV, MP3, AVI, MOV, GIF, MPG, etc, so you can recover everything that was on your iPod using a single software.
